Wayne State University Art Galleries and the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art, Art History, and Design is pleased to present Our House at the Art Department Gallery from September 12 through October 17, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 12, 5-8PM. Open gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12-5PM.

Our House highlights the creative and scholarly practices of Wayne State University’s art, art history and design faculty, alumni, and collaborators. 

Organized into a series of domestic spaces that evoke the intimate and familiar atmosphere of home, the curated environments of Our House invites visitors to step inside and explore the intersection of designed art, objects, and scholarship. 

As a nexus for collaboration and innovation, this exhibition illuminates the role our creative community plays in shaping the legacy of art, design and culture in Detroit and around the globe.

Our House features an eclectic body of work from over 40 artists, designers, and historians as well as the Wayne State University Art Collection. In conjunction with the Detroit Month of Design, the space will also host programming including dialogues and workshops led by faculty, visiting artists and designers. Introduction to Zero Waste Fashion Design with Fashion Design Professor Margaret Hull

This workshop will introduce the principles of zero-waste garment design. Participants will apply zero-waste principles in a hands-on activity. Sewing machines will be available for use but no sewing experience is required.
